Biography
For eleven years, David operated a well equipped commercial photography studio in Poway (San Diego), California called the PictureMaker. While living in California, David photographed students for the Del Mar Media Arts School for commercial television acting. He also photographed scene critiques, showcase and students of Herb Nector’s Studio IV for film and stage actors. David was a member of the Art & Fashion Group and was associated with Selena and Company, a San Diego based fashion modeling troupe. He photographed numerous fashion shows and his work was used to promote Women's Opportunity Week. David also photographed Art & Fashion Group events for publication in Hair and Fashion Magazine. In 1999, David moved the PictureMaker photography studio to Prince William County, Virginia. While located in Virginia, David specialized in photography for actors’ headshots, model composites, and special events such as fashion shows and acting showcases. David is an entertaining public speaker and has presented a seminar on Actors’ Headshots to the Washington, DC area Actors' Center, and the Fairfax County Westfield's High School drama department. He was the official photographer for the Washington DC 2002 Actors’ Center Showcase. Clients and published work in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area included Bloomingdale's, Laura Powell Productions, The Washington Post, The American Hotel & Lodging Association, the Actors’ Center, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, BAE Systems, Inc., Christian Life Centre, Tinder LLC, John Stirrup for Supervisor Campaign and Model/Talent Agencies. In March of 2007, David moved to the Austin, Texas area. He established David H. Overturf - PictureMaker in Georgetown, Texas. David H. Overturf - PictureMaker is a specialized professional photography studio that provides Still Photography On Set for film and television, Special Shoots for movie posters and film advertising key art, and Headshots for Actors and Performance Artists. Additionally, David H. Overturf - PictureMaker provides Photojournalist style photo coverage for Corporate Events, Fundraisers, Political Campaigns, Fashion Shows, Theater Productions and Private Functions. Since moving to the Austin area, David has produced Unit Still Photographs for seven independent and student films: Character Ambition – Directed by Eric Sparks; The Dead – Directed by Nick Dengler; Ring Tone – Directed by Scott A. Dow; Chemistry – Directed by Mary Mirabal; The Problem With Change – Directed by Zachary Magrini; A Night to Remember – Directed by Eric Sparks; and Potluck – Directed by Michelle Casanova. David maintains a specialized Unit Still Photography Kit for film productions that consists of: · Jacobson Sound Blimp with two lens tubes · Canon EOS 5d full frame professional digital camera · Canon L series 24~70mm f2.8 lens · Canon L series 70~200mm f2.8 image stabilized lens · Minolta Light Meter · Dell XPS M1210 Laptop Computer · Canon 4x6 inch portable dye sublimation printer Additional camera gear includes: · Canon EOS 1ds Mark II full frame professional digital camera · Canon L series 85mm f1.2 prime lens · Canon L series 24~105mm f4 image stabilized lens · Canon 50mm f1.4 prime lens · Canon Speedlight 580EX · Quantum Qflash T4D · Gitzo Tripod with Ball Head · Assorted bags and cases, memory cards, spare batteries, off-camera cords, etc. David is highly proficient with Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Illustrator CS2. He is an accomplished graphic designer, and is an expert in digital image retouching and digital printmaking. He uses an Epson Stylus Photo R2400 printer for production prints. His primary computer system is an HP Pavilion with an Intel Quad core processer, eight gigabytes of RAM, and 1.5 terabytes of internal hard disk storage. He uses the Windows Vista 64-bit operating system. David is a member of the Austin Film Society and the Professional Photographers of America. |
